C10: Sync via USB-Stick

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Intention: If 2 or more computers are not connected by a local network, you can use an USB stick (or an USB hard disk) as "Bridge". The USB stick receives a copy of the data and each computer can synchronize its own data with the copy on the USB stick.

Steps: Once:

Please make sure that the USB has a unique name that no other stick uses. You can edit the name in Windows in the properties of the USB sticks.

Steps: On each PC:

Connect the USB stick with the PC.
Install Easy2Sync for Outlook.
Create a new task.
For the first data storage (left) choose the local data.
For the second data storage (right) choose "bridge file". The path must already exist. The PST file can exist, but doesnt have to. You have to use the same file on all computers.

Special aspects: Easy2Sync will suggest to use the USB drive name instead of the drive letter to recognize the USB devices. It is recommended to confirm this because USB drive letters may randomly change under Windows.

Important: You need to create a separate task for each computer. Since each task may only be run only on the corresponding PC, Easy2Sync automatically disables tasks that may not be run on the current PC. Disabled tasks are displayed in grey an cannot be run.

Alternatives: See "C11: Installing on an USB stick"

Variations: For contacts, appointments, mail-only, team calendar, etc. see „Variations“.
