C2: Installing on an USB stick

Print this Topic Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Intention: If 2 or more computers are not connected by a local network, you can use an USB stick (or an USB hard disk) as "Bridge". The USB receives a copy of the data plus the program itself. This is an advantage if you do not have installation rights on all PCs.

Each computer can synchronize its own data with the copy on the USB stick

Steps: Once:

Install Easy2Sync for Outlook. But not on the PCs - instead use one of the PCs to install it in on the USB stick. For this you only have to choose the USB stick (or a folder on it) as target path during the installation.
At the first start Easy2Sync will ask if you want to store the tasks and options on the stick. Choose "Yes".
(If Easy2Sync didnt ask or if youve chosen "No", you can correct this: Create a file named "Easy2Sync_ForcedLocal.txt" on the USB stick in the same folder where Easy2Sync is installed. Restart Easy2Sync afterwards.)

Steps: On each PC:

Connect the USB stick to the PC.
Create a new task.
For the first data storage choose the local data.
For the second data storage choose "Other PC / Far away " and then the USB drive.

Special aspects: Easy2Sync will suggest to use the USB drive name instead of the drive letter to recognize the USB devices. It is recommended to confirm this because the drive letters may randomly change under Windows.

Important: You need to create a separate task for each. Since each task may only be run on the corresponding PC, Easy2Sync automatically disables tasks that may not be run on the current PC. Disabled tasks are displayed in grey an cannot be run.

Trick: You can put the tasks into a task collection and hide the individual tasks with the help of the view menu. Now you only have to start the task collection. Easy2Sync will automatically start the matching individual task.

Variations: For contacts, appointments, mail-only, team calendar, etc. see „Variations“.
